Sexual Health Q & A

What kind of sexual health services are available?

The staff at Albany Obstetrics & Gynecology partners with our patients to help them stay informed about and protect their sexual health. In addition to patient education, we also offer:

  • Contraception
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines
  • Treatment for sexual dysfunction
  • Testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

By providing sexual health services to our patients, the skilled providers at Albany Obstetrics & Gynecology help our patients get the most out of life.

Should I get checked for sexually related diseases?

If you’re sexually active, the short answer is yes. Albany Obstetrics & Gynecology strives to create a warm, welcoming, nonjudgmental environment for your testing. Our inclusive, understanding team is here to help you stay informed about your sexual health.

And with the right sexual health care provider, you get two things. First, you get the medical expertise you need to know your sexual status, helping you protect your health and be a responsible sexual partner. Secondly, you get an ally available to answer all of your questions and guide you toward your healthiest lifestyle.

Albany Obstetrics & Gynecology is dedicated to providing both of those things, alongside convenient, reliable testing for STIs.

What types of contraception are available?

A key aspect of protecting your sexual health is ensuring you don’t get pregnant until you’re ready. Albany Obstetrics & Gynecology works with you to find the right contraception for your lifestyle, your body, and your family planning goals.

We offer the traditional contraception options you expect, including the birth control pill, patch, or ring and barrier options like condoms and diaphragms. But some women don’t want to have to think about their birth control on such a regular basis. If you’re one of them, you’ll be glad to know that we also offer long-acting reversible contraception.

Forms of low-maintenance contraception include:

  • Birth control injections
  • Intrauterine devices (IUD)
  • Arm-implanted birth control

These birth control options give you the flexibility to choose your timeline. The injections last three months, for example, while some IUDs last a decade. Both IUDs and arm implants stop being effective shortly after removal, meaning if you decide you want to have a baby, you can simply have your birth control removed and start trying to get pregnant right away.

Additionally, with these birth control options, you can choose hormone-based or hormone-free birth control (i.e., the copper IUD).

Your sexual health is an important part of your overall wellbeing. Get the care you need and deserve by calling Albany Obstetrics & Gynecology or scheduling your appointment online.
