First Exam

Every woman knows that the first gynecologic exam will always color her future experiences. We are sensitive to the anxiety of a first exam and have many different techniques to help your first exam be more comfortable. With the newest pap guidelines, it is very possible your first gynecologic exam may not require a pelvic exam.

 

Adolescent Care

Establishing care during adolescence, or teenage years, is an important step toward ensuring health and safety in the years to come. Providing a safe, comfortable, and confidential environment to provide education and resources is of the utmost importance to us.

 

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Many young women have questions regarding sexually related diseases. We will provide you with the most accurate information, testing, and treatment.

 

Contraception

When women are not ready to conceive, we are here to offer you options to protect yourself from pregnancy. There are many options available. For some women, daily and monthly options like birth control pills, patch, or ring may be desired. For others, Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) methods are a great choice- these options consist of Depo-Provera shot, as well as Nexplanon implant or Intra-uterine device (IUD). Barrier options, like diaphragms and condoms remain options as well.  We can discuss all these options and help you make a decision regarding what option is best for you.

 

HPV Vaccines

A generation ago, there was no way to vaccinate against a cancer causing agent. Now there is. The HPV vaccination is highly effective against cervical cancer, as well as some rectal and head and neck cancers. Age of eligibility has been expanded, and even if you previously were unable to obtain the vaccine, you may now be able to benefit. Let us tell you more.

 

Irregular Periods

It is not unusual to have irregular periods at the beginning of your menstruating years. Some can be normal variations and others can be a result of a hormonal imbalance or other abnormalities. We can help you distinguish the difference. Irregular cycles beyond the teenage years may be abnormal. We can help you diagnose and then treat the underlying problems.

 

Heavy and Painful Periods

You don’t have to suffer with bad cramps or heavy periods. If you have pain or heavy bleeding during your periods, we can help diagnose the underlying cause and then treat the periods with either medication or surgery.

 

Infertility

Sometimes trying to conceive does not go as planned.  There are several reasons for infertility: ovulation dysfunction, tubal blockage or male issues. Our practice has the ability to test for and treat some of these issues. For our patients who have been trying for 1 year or more, please let us know how we can help. For our patients who are over age 35, we would like to see you if you have been trying for 6 months or more.

 

Preconception Counseling

A healthy pregnancy begins with a healthy mother. We can help screen for inherited diseases and optimize your health, including any pre-existing medical problems you may have. Some medications may need to be changed to one that will safer for a pregnancy.

 

Annual Exams

Annual exams are more than pap smears these days. Annual exams are an opportunity to review a wide range of preventive health screening and testing, as well as a time to discuss general health and wellness.  Through pap testing we can screen for high-risk HPV and cervical cancer.  We will also discuss other preventive screening tests such as mammograms at the appropriate age, as well as colon cancer screening and osteoporosis screening.

 

Peri-Menopause and Menopause

As you come to the end of your cycles, uncomfortable symptoms may arise such as insomnia, hot flushes, vaginal dryness, and mood swings. You also may notice significant changes in bleeding, will more irregular, longer, or shorter cycles.  We can help you transition through menopause safely and more comfortably.

 

Osteoporosis

The weakening of the bones is a silent disease with possible significant health consequences. Once a woman breaks her hip, the risks of declining health increase due to lack of mobility and independence. That is why we are committed to treating osteopenia and osteoporosis aggressively with lifestyle changes and medications when needed.

 

Sexual Dysfunction

We realize that a decreased sex drive or libido is a very common and distressing problem. There are numerous reasons this occurs. We can help shed light on this intimate issue and suggest treatment.

 

Pelvic Pain

There are many reasons that women have pelvic pain.  A thorough discussion and examination can shed light on pain that is affecting your life.  Endometriosis, pelvic floor dysfunction, hormone changes, ovarian cysts, and fibroids can all contribute to pain.  If you have pain, you should be evaluated to determine the cause and appropriate treatment, which could include medication, physical therapy, or even surgery in some situations.
